Top 6 Family Trips this Summer
Whether you’ve got toddlers, teens or even tweens, summer is the perfect time to reconnect with your family, to recreate favourite childhood memories and make news ones together. Here we share our favourite family summer trips to help you plan your own holiday!
Spain
Looking for moderate temperatures and uncrowded beaches? Why not travel to northern Spain!? Our Picos Family Explorer takes you to beautiful northern Spain, cycle along the coast, swim off a sandy beach in the middle of a meadow, and stand on a high peak with a blanket of clouds at your feet or slide drop down a mountain stream. This is indeed a great way to discover the very best of the Picos de Europa with days of guided activities to complement independent days exploring as a family.
Costa Rica
While Costa Rica in July is firmly within the rainy season, there is actually a 2-3 week window of lovely weather (like the dry season but with cooler temperatures and more greenery). So that makes the perfect time to discover the beautiful Pacific regions, from the cloudforests to the wide open beaches. As much fun for a couple as for a family, our Pacific Uncovered offers off the beaten track self-drive adventures with a series of beautiful small lodges hidden in some of Costa Rica’s least visited corners.
Chile
For those looking for something totally different we got something special, a splendid winter adventure in Chile! Yes remember July/August is winter season in the Southern Hemisphere and that the Chilean Andes are home to some unique and contrasting sceneries. Our Ski & Desert trip takes you from the wood panelled elegance of Portillo skiing resort near Santiago to the modern Atacama spa hotel in the north, where you’ll be able to choose from a range of guided trips like riding bikes across salt flats or hiking through gorges and geyser fields.
Brazil
Another fabulous destination adventurous families will fancy this summer is Brazil. Although not totally ideal for beach time, our Essential Brazil holiday is perfect for those willing to spot superb wildlife in the Pantanal region as well as explore the dramatic hills of Rio as the dry and cool weather will allow to take in the views of the wonderful bays. And why not ask to add a few days in the lovely Chapada Diamantina to enjoy the mesas, savannah and waterfalls of the remote Pati Valley?
Peru
As the northern hemisphere’s school holidays coincide with the best weather in the Andes and Amazon. Our exciting 15-day tailor made Peru Family Adventure might be your trump card if you want to impress your active family. Discover Peru's adventure playgrounds as you paddle in the Amazon, ride bikes downhill past salt pans, raft the white waters of the Urubamba River, and hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu… after the crowds are gone of course.
Ecuador
Our last favourite family trip for this summer is one dedicated to wildlife lovers (of any age)! Starting in the lively Mindo cloudforest near Quito, our Ecuador Family Adventure lets you uncover the secrets of the forest while bird watching, horse riding, mountain biking or river tubing. Then you travel to the Galapagos, to enjoy plenty of courtship, nesting activity amongst the Galápagos birds, spot whales and dolphins, as well as swim with sea lions and paddle past penguins!
