Does 'yourself' get annoyed?

Living in the home town of Lynne Truss, being pernickety about grammar perhaps runs in our blood. And so it is that I feel the time has come to call out a habit which is in danger of becoming universal: needlessly replacing the word you with yourself.

Recent examples we've been treated to range from the empathetic, ā€œWhat does yourself think about that?ā€, to the baffling ā€œThank you, itā€™s been a pleasure speaking to yourself.ā€ to the infuriating ā€œLet me give you their details so you can call themselves.ā€

We always encourage people to call and talk to us about their holidays. If any of you out there want to call but are frozen for fear of being subjected to meaningless yourselves, please donā€™t worry, at Pura Aventura, you will always be you, and them will be them.
