Travelling to Costa Rica with Pura Aventura
Our small group of friends and family has had the most incredible and unforgettable time in Costa Rica, experiencing the diversity of the country, from the Central Highlands, to the Rain and Cloud Forests, Caribbean and Pacific coasts.
We have had a mix of seeing amazing animals with all of our different tour guides, which included many howler, capuchin, spider and squirrel monkeys, sloths, snakes, iguanas and many exotic birds, including colourful humming birds, resplendent quetzals and scarlet macaw. We have experienced the thrills of white-water rafting, waterfall rappelling and zip lining which were all awesome. We have kayaked through the mangroves, ridden horses along the beach, snorkelled, seen the spectacle of the sun ris, and watched dolphins and flying-fish.
A special day for us was travelling by jeep and then an hour up-river in a dug-out canoe to visit the indigenous Bribri tribe in the foothills of the Talamanca mountains and learning how they live with no electricity. We even made chocolate and were shown how to thatch using palm fronds – fascinating.
We have walked through amazing rainforest, strolled along unspoilt beaches and swum in pools beneath waterfalls – just unforgettable. We have visited the National Parks, seen an organic farm and had an overview on how the eco-systems are working and can be fully sustainable. A special moment for us was when we released over one hundred baby turtles into the ocean – just magical.
The maps and information provided by Pura Aventura were excellent, very comprehensive and the itinerary was diverse and fascinating. Everything that was organised for us ran very smoothly and all the lodges and hotels we stayed at were of excellent quality, spacious, very clean and in amazing locations. Each one was different with their own special appeal so we were full of anticipation at each new venue – we were not disappointed.
The guides and tours were just brilliant and did everything they could to make each trip memorable and fun and we would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone going to Costa Rica.
The 4 x 4 provided did us proud and although, the driving was at times quite challenging, we really enjoyed the off-roading, which added to the whole adventure of the holiday. It’s not often you have the opportunity to drive across river beds, over narrow bridges, sandy tracks and unmade roads - Jemma was in her element!
We have seen and done the most incredible things and stayed in amazing places. Costa Rica is a truly memorable and fascinating country and we have had many ‘wow factor’ moments as well as the release of the baby turtles into the ocean. We would certainly be more than happy to recommend Pura Aventura to anyone who is seeking an adventure holiday, as everything was so well organised, and we were given so much detailed information.
Our last night was spent at Macaw Lodge, on the edge of the Carara National Park, which was stunning and in a beautiful tropical and organic location. However, it was somewhat remote and as we lost Sat Nav, it did take us a while to find it!
This holiday was certainly memorable and an unforgettable experience with many moments which we will cherish forever so a very big thank you from the four of us, to ALL the team at Pura Aventura, who put so much work and effort into creating a very special holiday.
