Cantarito de Tequila Cocktail Recipe

Margarita, Tequila Sunrise, Bandera Mexicana, Paloma?

There are many Tequila-based cocktails, but for the most exotic feel 'Cantarito de Tequila' is probably the best of all. Also known as Jarrito de Tequila, this fruity cocktail is named after the hand made clay jug in which it is served to keep the cocktail fresh longer. A nice souvenir you can take home when you buy it at local bars or roadside stalls in Mexico!

There is a multitude of ways to make this popular drink, but here is a recipe I got from a bar located in the small town of Tequila, some years ago. It has never failed me during hot summer days, since then:

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Tequila 'Blanco' or 'Reposado' (100% Agave)

  • 2 oz Fresh Orange Juice

  • 1 oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice

  • 3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice

  • Ting or any grapefruit soda

    Preparation

Pour all of the juices and tequila into your clay jug (previously submerged in cold water), or just use a normal highball glass filled with ice. Top it off with the grapefruit soda. Garnish with fruit wedges, stir it, sprinkle Tajin or Chamoy chile seasoning (for serious Mexican flavour seekers) and enjoy responsibly.

Happy Tequila Day by the way! Salud
