Pura Aventura is closely monitoring the global situation regarding Coronavirus. We understand you may be unable to travel to your destination or are a little nervous about travelling at the moment. You may have questions about the current situation and be interested to know our own policy, opinion and advice. We are updating this advice on an ongoing basis as the situation evolves.
Firstly, please understand that your health and safety is always our top priority. Secondly, we appreciate that your trip with us is supposed to be an enjoyable and relaxing time for you. Lastly, we are also doing everything we can to support our local partners - most of whom are small family businesses, from hotels to restaurants, guides and drivers. People for whom the impact of people not travelling is severe. These are the factors we take into account when monitoring Pura Aventura's response to the situation.
What is the current situation in the destinations we operate?
We have a very close network of local partners on the ground who keep us informed of any developments. We work closely with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and follow their advice and guidance. Clearly everyone is in an unprecedented situation and we are doing our very best to ensure that we communicate clearly and fairly as it continues to develop.
The UK Government’s FCO has issued an Advisory against all non-essential foreign travel as the world for an initial 30-day period, starting 17th March 2020. All our holidays within this timeframe have been moved or cancelled, irrespective of destination. We have contacted all those impacted to make new arrangements and are currently working our way through the departures beyond this point in anticipation of this period being extended.
Our priority is moving all trips impacted by the Coronavirus to new dates later in 2020, or into 2021 if necessary. In this way, our clients are able to look forward to and enjoy their trips, but also, together we’ll be doing our part to support our very small scale partners overseas, who are being hit incredibly hard by COVID-19’s effect on tourism.
In this difficult time, we have been deeply moved and grateful for all the messages of support and co-operation from our lovely clients. These really do get noticed and shared around, so thank you.
If you are thinking of travelling later in the year or in 2021 but are concerned about booking, please do get in touch so that we can discuss your options.
Can I cancel or postpone?
If you have an imminent departure and the FCO impose a travel restriction that falls within this timeframe, we will offer to defer your trip, change your destination/itinerary, or issue a refund.
If you do choose to cancel your trip without any FCO advice in place, our default position is that standard terms and conditions apply. Saying that, we’re aiming to be as flexible as possible because these are such extraordinary circumstances. And in any case, we would encourage you not to do so in order to support often small, rural communities.
Where can I stay up to date with the latest advice and developments?
For UK citizens the best place for up-to-date advice is the NHS website. The World Health Organisation and Fit for Travel website also have a number of measures to help protect yourself. Here is an up-to-date map detailing areas affected.
We will continue to monitor the situation and update you as necessary. The best way to keep up to date and read some positive stories that will hopefully help keep spirits up is to subscribe to our Pothole email:
Thank you all again for your understanding and messages of support for both us and our overseas partners at this most extraordinary time.
The Pothole is Pura Aventura's popular monthly email. We share what we love, what interests us and what we find challenging. And we don't Photoshop out the bits everyone else does. We like to think our considered opinions provide food for thought, and will sometimes put a smile on your face. They've even been known to make people cry.
